SENSOR CLEANING SERVICE
Starting January 2013, we started providing a digital camera sensor cleaning service. The service will only deal with cleaning the sensor itself, not the camera over all.
Who needs this service? Every digital photographer with a DSLR who changes lenses, the more frequently you change lenses the more likely you are to have dust spots or even lint on your sensor.
But my camera has a sensor cleaning mode, so I don't need this service, right? WRONG, some of the particles will not easily be shaken off the sensor so even cameras with sensor cleaning modes will get pesky spots from time to time, trust me, why do you think I purchased the equipment.
How does one know if their camera needs cleaning? On a clear, cloudless day take a picture of the blue sky and make sure there is nothing else in the frame. Then using the LCD on the back of the camera, zoom in some and scroll from left to right and top to bottom of the frame to look at the entire image close up. If you have gray looking "spots" in the sky, you have dust particles on your sensor.
How much does it cost? The cleaning is a tedious process and requires special equipment not to mention nerves of steel. Ok, Ok, it is $75.00 plus tax which comes out to $80.63. The process can take some time depending on how much and how long the dust has been on the sensor. Therefore,
The camera must be left with us for at least two days and the camera's manual must accompany the camera.
To schedule a cleaning just email or call Frank at: firstname.lastname@example.org or 850.251.4912.
Now how does one prevent getting spots on the sensor? Not as easy as one might think, but if you're careful you can reduce the risk:
1. Do not change your lenses anywhere where there is wind blowing, an air conditioner blowing or an overhead fan blowing, including in your car.
2. When you do change lenses, have the next lens ready to put on the camera, ie. have the cap just sitting on the lens not screwed on tight. Turn your camera off and point it down toward the ground when you take the lens off the camera. With the camera still point downward, quickly put that lens down, take the cap off the next lens and put it over the removed lens, then take the next lens and place it carefully on the camera.
3. If your camera has a built in sensor cleaning mode, hold your camera horizontally and turn your camera on and go to the menu and select the clean it now option. Then set your camera to clean the sensor whenever the camera is turned on or off. Making sure you hold the camera horizontally when you turn the camera on or off.
Dagnabit, if I didn't accidently delete those important photos!!!!!!!
Have you ever deleted a photo by accident, how about a whole card full of photos after a family reunion or other important event? If this has happened to you, stop what you are doing, don't try to make any changes to the camera or the memory card and give me a call. I may be able to retrieve many if not all of your photos as long as you haven't taken more pictures on the same card.
I recently helped a customer who had deleted photos of her new born grandson. I heard she had committed the error and asked her to let me try to get those photos back for her. I not only retrieved the ones she wanted and a whole bunch more that she had forgotten about and was glad to see them again in her collection. I was able to retrieve over 800 of her deleted treasures. This service is priced based on the size of you memory card and starts at $53.75 including tax for a two Gigabyte card.
